Geocache Description:

This is another cemetery cache in the AMTG series. This cache is in the Micanopy Historic Cemetery which was established in 1890. I mark my cemetery hides as being not kid friendly because I want parents to decide when a child is ready for this type of experience. They are more than welcome if they are well behaved and mature enough to not be troubled by the surroundings. Please bring the following to my AMTG hides: 1) Your respect…do not disturb the vegetation or the residents. 2) Your imagination….try to understand and see how others lived and are remembered. 3) A compass for directional purposes (if you wish) 4) A measuring tape (I use a 250foot unit). For those that may be mobility challenged. I try to make all of my caches as easy as possible because I want folks to find them and at the same time expose them to new ideas and make them think. The visually challenged can enjoy these caches because the hands can feel the beauty that sighted people rely on so much. Unfortunately, this cache is not wheelchair accessible but those that are mobility challenged CAN enjoy them with a little help. This one is a real challenge because of the height of the cache. Now, on with the hunt! The first waypoint is a resting place for a young girl. It is just to park your vehicle and relax while learning and seeing how much she is missed. I do not know who she was or what happened to her, but her memorial speaks volumes about how much she is missed. You can view Way Point #1 picture if you have problems. UPDATE: The grave site has not been tended in a LONG time. Compare the photo of the first waypoint to what it looks like today. It is sad that someone's memory can slip away so quickly. At least you will remember what it was like if you look at the photos. There are still angels hanging in the overgrown bushes to remind us of when she died but most of the flowering bushes have gone the way of her. From here travel in a SSE direction looking for a large statue of a woman. This is a beautiful monument to Annie Gertrude who died in 1891 at the age of 20. Take a moment and think about what it cost to have such a monument erected in 1891. She is beautiful and points upward. You can view Way Point #2 picture if you have problems locating this step. From Annie’s monument proceed in the direction of 3 degrees by your compass for a distance of about 187 feet. This should take you to a tree which holds the cache. Next to the tree is a monument to Bradie Roosevelt Ward that speaks volumes. I was amazed at how many places he worked to defend our country. I was shocked to see how old he was when he joined the navy. You can view Way Point #3 picture if you are having problems locating Bradie’s memorial. UPDATE The cache container has been replace by [JJDP}, a wonderful cacher. It is slightly smaller than a regular. If you find it on the ground, please place it back up in the tree so it will not be thrown out by the wonderful folks that take care of this place. You might need a little help if you are vertically challenged. Please replace it so that it can be grabbed easily but cover it up a bit to give it some cammo. Another UPDATE: A relative of Brady found the cache and sent an email that he is still around...what a guy. AND the "She Deserved Better" monument was for a woman that had a hard married life and DID deserve better (info from another cacher that knew her). Check out the 9/21/2010 log. More of the history. Check out the log of June 28, 2009. It is a small world. 7/17/2011 post by a muggle who heard about the cache: short story... I know nothing of Geo-caching, however in doing a Google search found you have located My Uncle Bradie's (yet to be used) Headstone and My Aunt Ernestine. We talked to Uncle Bradie a few months ago and at that time was alive and well as could be expected living in Butler Tenn. Aunt Ernestine is a distant memory to me (I am 48) as we were not very close. Such a Small world to know that many folks have visited. Maybe I/we need to find out more about your hobby. PS: The "She deserved better" lady was Brady's daughter...
