Church of St George
Originating from the 13th C. The church today is 15C
It consistes of a chancel, nave, north transept, chapel, crypt,
south aisle & porch, west tower and vestry.
The four stage 'Somerset' tower was built about 1500 with 6 bells.
All the bells have inscription on them.
The weather vane was added in 1756 by Thomas Bayley of Bridgwater.
The Vestry and Poulett Pew were added in 1814 by Sir Jeffry Wyatville.
A stone found in the paraet of the tower is carved with a date of 1731
suggesting it was added as part of a repair.
This Grade I listed building is blessed with a vast number of
exquisite artefacts many to the family of the Lords Poulett.
The Poulett Memorial Chapel contains a unique collection of
monuments, tombs and an effigy of Sir Amias Poulett.
The Baroque monument is the oldest known example of the Itaian
plastering technique of scaglioia in the Country.
