This section of the Centenary Trail (Section 6) traverses a part of the Murrumbidgee Corridor and highlights some of the amazing views along the way of this beautiful river.

The trail begins at Kambah Pool and heads to Pine Island Reserve.

Facilities at either end of the trail include barbeques, drinking water, and toilets.

On the river, recreational pursuits during the warmer months include swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Dogs are not permitted in the reserve or on the trail, although it is perfect for cyclists, walkers and runners.

According to the sign at the start of the trail, the track is approximately 9.2km in distance (one way), and can be accessed from either end of the trail. The scenery throughout the trail is spectacular; the majestic Murrumbidgee, river rapids (especially after any rain), steep red cliffs along with beautiful bush scenery.

The trail is fairly easy for a mountain bike ride or a pleasant walk/run. To make the most of the series and the adventure along the way, plan a car shuffle and enjoy a bbq at the finishing end of the trail.

As with all outdoor and bush activities, take plenty of water, and a spare battery for the GPS. Summer by the river in the ACT does have an abundance of wildlife, including various reptiles. When this series was laid, our biggest concern was to avoid spraining an ankle in the many wombat holes along the way.

The caches have been placed to highlight the views along the way.  All caches are small sistemas. Most are no more than 100 metres from the main trail, so it is easy to travel by bicycle and leave the bike on the track.

Along the way, you will also be able to find some of the other quirky, interesting and challenging caches that have been placed by many of Canberra’s cache hiders. Add these to your list and you will be able to enjoy a great day outdoors collecting a few smileys.

NB Pine Island and Kambah Pool gates are closed from 6pm-8am over winter, and from 9pm-8am during daylight savings.
