It was said that the baobab tree (Adansonia digitata) was brought to Barbados around 1738 from Guinea in Africa. Two magnificent trees with possibly the widest tree-trunks to be found in the Caribbean, grow in Barbados! The largest can be seen in Queen's Park in Bridgetown. To give an example of the size of this tree of great distinction, it takes 15 adults joining with outstretched arms to cover its circumference, girth 51.5 ft (18.5m)
The other grand specimen can be found on the Warren's Road in St.Michael, where the inscription on the wooden plaque reads: Boabab Tree (Adansonia digitata) - one of the two mature trees in Barbados. This remarkable tree of girth 44.5 ft (13.6m) is believed to have been brought from Guinea, Africa around 1738 making it over 250 years old. Its jug-shaped trunk is ideally suited for storing water, an ideal adaption in the dry savannah regions of its native Africa.
The other name for the Baobab tree is the Monkey Bread tree, monkey bread being the name given by locals to the peculiar fruit the tree bears. The trees, originally from Africa, are thought to live as long as a thousand years and anyone who cuts one down will be haunted by the spirits that live within their branches.

A conundrum - the native tree from Africa is called the baobab but these two trees here in Barbados (verified on the plaques) are called boabab.

As we set the cache at night we did not get chance to take any good photos of the tree
So if you could take a photo of the tree in the day, I shall post it on the cache page . If you're not then be in the photo .
Many thanks Team Marzipan
Note
Great play area next to Boabab tree for kids, and park benches for the adults. Bring drinking water!
