A Bit of Rivalry Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

sugernspice: It is with sadness I need to archive this cache. New owners (of the rivalry) property across the street are taking theirs down. I work out of town several weeks, don't expect son and daughter-in-law to keep it up on this side for me, especially as part of the meaning is gone. I'm to the age a 6 foot ladder for the scenes are getting a bit scary. I've loved meeting cachers I could visiting this cache... so much fun... especially families. Special memories. Have an idea to replace this as different... but close ; ). Keep an eye out : )! Happy caching my friends!

Geocache Description:

This should be a cache that just lets you enjoy the truly amazing views, weather permitting, going up or down one very traveled road in Port Angeles. Container holds log book only so bring a writing tool. Best if found doing daylight hours... or you won't be able to see the fun stuff!

Washington State University, founded in 1890, and the University of Washington, founded in 1861, are two of a few of the main universities in Washington. They also happen to be each other’s biggest rivals, at this time anyway. Two of my husband’s sons are alumni to this college. We have “Coug” stuff all over. The cougar became the official mascot on 10/28/1919. The husky became University of Washington's mascot in 1922.

We’d been caching for 1 year when we went to the youngest one’s graduation. Saw some of the big barns on the way to Pullman, did some caching around town… one is across from the famous “Shoe Tree” which made me laugh. Had some of their famous ice cream, and got to read the story of Ferdinand the Bull.

This cache is on the cache owner’s property right near the sidewalk which you can drive or walk up to. Enjoy the view of the Olympics coming up the hill, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Canada, where the local ferry takes you to Victoria, when you drive down. We live in a truly beautiful and unique area where the Olympics do meet the Sea, literally about 18 miles apart, where you can see both depending on if you look north or south.

The boys’ old basketball post, hoop gone, has been recycled with the help of a neighbor who makes whimsical decorative birdhouses. He surprised me with this one. If you turn around from this one and look across the street kitty-corner, NWish, you will see his “Husky’s” birdhouse. The neighbors know this is a cache, think I’m a little bit nuts, but love that I keep changing the scenes on it. I change the decorations for seasons or holidays when the mood strikes. If you look up at the back eave of the barn you will see an official Cougar geocoin. The coin code is on the first page of the log book.

Happy Caching and please check out the caches on the nearby Samuelson Trail and the beautiful Little River Trail up Black Diamond Road!

NOTE: Log book is notched on top to fit back best... remember to set it back that way... Thanks!
