Lake Alexandra in Mittagong
A man made lake which started life as a dam supplying water for engines hauling coal to the Fitzroy iron mines almost 140 years ago. A park land reserve surrounds the lake and birdlife lives in profusion on the water and shores. Barbecue facilities and shelter sheds are available. The whole area has recently been revamped and renovated.
Many walking tracks start at the lake. The Mount Alexandra Reserve is 2000 ha in area (5,000 acres). Alexandra Reserve includes Box Vale Walking Track, Nattai Loop Track, Forty Foot Falls, Yellow Track, and Green Track & Red Track.
Walking maps can be purchased from the Visitor Information Centre in Mittagong
This location just ticks all the boxes there
is a playground for the Geo Kids,dogs on leads are welcome and a large choice of bushwalks awaits.The cache is just off the main concrete walkway filled with goodies.
At different times of day and weekends this spot is popular so stealth may be needed at times you may be seen from above
