Geocache Description:

This is a new cache, inspired by one that was here a year ago, but hasn’t been seen since. The original has been archived, after several attempts to contact the owner.

This is a quote from the original cache: "Rumor has it that in 1892, the first ice cream sundae was created in Ithaca, New York. Now, many cities claim to be the founder of this delicious treat but Ithaca can pinpoint the date so accurately that they have the precise minute of this notorious treats creation documented (supposedly it was on a "Sunday"). While before 1892, many people had enjoyed ice cream with delicious toppings, it wasn't until someone in Ithaca made a presentation so unique and delicious, it was given a name. The story goes that Chester Platt requested a dish of vanilla ice cream on April 3, 1892, but once given the dish, he decided to add more toppings. Platt felt so much passion towards the vanilla ice cream topped with cherry syrup and a candied cherry that he felt obligated to give it a name. After much deliberation, a man who had accompanied Platt, John Scott, proclaimed that they should name it after the day it was created- thus, the ice cream sundae was born."

Spring 2015, soon after I started geocaching, I found the Ice Cream Cache here. I was charmed and delighted. Last winter, in Englewood FL, I found a similar container and made a cache for my favorite Ice Cream store there. One day the owner called me to say it was missing. I immediately bought another container and replaced it. A week or so later, we found out that it had been left out in the open and after that, placed in a different hiding place. I moved the old one back, tied it in and now had an extra container. That one is now the Ithaca Ice Cream Cache.

The cache is hidden with the owner’s permission. It is away from the store and muggles. Please be careful with the landscaping and respect the property. The cache is tied in (I learn from experience) and holds a rolled log with a rubber band to help it fit in the tiny plastic zip lock bag. The rubber band is important to help get the log back in the bag. If you put the rubber band on your finger while signing the log, you won't lose it.

There are two ice cream related prizes for FTF, one is an unactivated Travel Bug.

Please make sure that the cache is closed tightly and securely when you are done and hide it nicely again.
