Note: 3/30/04 This is a newly listed cache. I have made several
modifications to the data. If you have printed a copy of this
listing, please print out a new copy.
The coordinates listed have nothing to do with this puzzle, they
will take you to a park in Olivet Michigan. This cache will require
lots of calculations which must be done before leaving the house.
Remember it's a difficulty five.
This is a virtual cache located in the middle of nowhere. Although
it may appear to be on private property, it is not. In good dry
weather you can drive right up to a place of passing historical
significance, so no bushwhacking is required. In wet or snowy
conditions, you better park at the road and walk. This area should
only be visited during daylight hours. This is a virtual cache,
there is nothing hidden here.
To find the virtual cache location, identify the object located at
N 42 26.560 W 84 34.340.
You are an eagle, with exceptional vision, perched 46.305% of the
objects total height from the top, looking at a tasty mouse on the
horizon at 282.728 degrees true. Fly to this location to get your
meal. Beware that this could be a long flight and a lot of work for
a measly mouse.
There are a few assumptions that must be made to calculate this
location.
The earth is a perfect sphere of radius 3963.1 statute miles. Be
aware that many of the formulas and web based calculators use
nautical miles and/or a different radius.
For this scenario, there are no obstructions between you and your
dinner.
The calculations are based on the Great Circle Route method.
Planar trig is not recommended due to the distances involved. If
you use planar trig, it will come close but put you on private
property and reduce the difficulty to a 4.
The height calculated is assumed to be the eagle's viewpoint.
This puzzle can be solved with brute force mathematics, or you may
use tools available on the web. You can drive by the object located
at N 42 26.560 W 84 34.340 or use web resources to identify it.
THERE IS NOTHING LOCATED AT THESE COORDINATES FOR GEOCACHERS, IT IS
PRIVATE PROPERTY, AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. Either way, you will
have to do some internet research to determine the height of the
object. You can also decode some hints in the hints section
below.
