In Hawaiian "Mauna" means mountain, and "Lahilahi" has multiple meanings including "slender" or "weak". Both of these meanings were appropriate today. This geological feature is a knife-like ridge on the ocean's edge. The majority of the trail, when distinguishable is along the spine. You'll need to skirt some verticle faces, but stay close to the ridge. The weak part deals with my knees, one of which is still has tears healing in two ligaments. But, today was too beautiful and the cache container had been sitting on the shelf too long. I parked at N21 27.840 W158 12.776. The treail starts off along one of the most gorgeous beaches on the island. There are multiple trailheads just past the hotels that will lead you to the base of the rock N21 27.633 W158 12.687. From there keep close to the ridge and be careful! The vistas are fantastic. The surf was great. The weather literally postcard perfect. Remember my creedo; "Obession is a powerfull drug . . . just not a pain killer". My therapist and I will talk about this one. When searching for the cache you don't need to go more than a few feet off the trail. Stay away from the edge. Bring a pen or pencil to sign the log.
