Down by the River "NoVAGO's Spring Event" Event Cache

Been a while since we have held an event along the Potomac so we thought what better time than now? Before you get your hiking boots on for this one you might want to consider packing a towel and maybe watercraft if you got one. Caches are currently being placed on the park property and the nearby islands so you will have your hands full with finding caches, meeting friends and eating some good potluck. We'll be hosting the event at in Fairfax, Virginia: 8700 Potomac Hills Street, Great Falls, VA 22066. Here is a park map(.pdf file).

Special Note: NoVAGO events are open to cachers of all experience levels. We particularly invite new cachers to come so they can meet cachers from all around the region!

There are several geocaches in the park and along the nearby trails. Parking is at posted coordinates. If the lot is full then parking along the entrance road is your next option.

There will be a Handful of new caches published the day of the event.

Boating Portion of the event:(optional)

While there will be caches placed on islands, no boats are going to be provided for you via NoVAGO. Sadly boats will not be available for rental from Riverbend Park (mid may they will be open) but a handful of cachers will be bringing their boats so I am sure you may be able to catch a ride or borrow a boat to venture into the Potomac to find caches on the wonderful islands.

WARNING: The Potomac river may look tame but please do not take it for granted as the undercurrent can be very dangerous. If you go out on a boat make sure you have a Personal Floatation Device. Going in groups of 2 or more is not mandatory but is strongly suggested for purposes of safety.

Please post your Will Attend log with:

1. What you intend to bring, We will provide the Hotdogs and Hamburger meatalong with buns.

2. How many people you are RSVP'ing for (so we can get an accurate head-count)

* Please do not log travel bugs into the event and leave them on a table to be retrieved by other cachers. If you'd like to trade TBs, please do so person to person. This way they can all be accounted for and none get left behind, listed on the event page and then deemed to be MIA.
