This rural cemetery was founded in heartbreak with the death of
a young child in 1855. That summer, xxxTBDxxx Young brought his
young family to Nebraska Territory – itself only a year old.
There was hope in the hearts of the young parents both for their
offspring and for their new life. This acre of land was set aside,
with the child as its first sad occupant.
Young’s Cemetery has seen better times. Years of neglect
and vandalism have taken their toll. Over the past few years a
Young’s Cemetery Association has been formed and the cemetery
log cabin (built in 1856 but moved here in 1941) given a new roof
and fixed up generally.
The Young’s Cemetery CITO will help clean up the cemetery
by moving fallen branches, clearing brush from fences, and doing
some raking. We will also be cleaning tombstones with stiff brushes
-- no chemicals.
We'll have the needed tools available, but if you can bring
gloves, bristle brush (not wire), and a rake or two, that would be
great.
Unfortunately there are no restrooms available.
This CITO is being held on the 17th, not during the 9th Annual
Cache In Trash Out Events on April 30th & May 1st, to avoid
other maintenance planned by the cemetery association.
The Young Cemetery Cabin cache (GCR8Q8) is in the cemetery and a
nearby cache will be published on the day of the CITO. There also
will be a drawing for a Groundspeak “Keep It Clear CITO Cache
Container”

And other hot prizes as we uncover them.
