Oddvar Torsheim er ein mangesidig kunstnar: Han er målar, grafikar, teiknar, diktar og musikar. Torsheim er utdanna ved Grafisk skole i Charlottenborg i Danmark og Bergen Kunsthåndverkskole. Han voks opp på Rovde på Sunnmøre og i Naustdal i Sunnfjord, men er i dag busett i Førde.
I oljemåleria, akvarellane, teikningane og grafikken sin latterleggjer han fordommar og vanetenking med surrealistisk fantasi og samfunnskritisk tendens. Han har òg gjeve ut fleire diktsamlingar med eigne illustrasjonar, mellom andre Syner i syttiåra (1980) og Svarte kvitingar i 80-åra (1999), samt musikk-CD-ane Nynorskens skog (1992) og Tur-Retur Blues (2000). Han er representert på Museet for samtidskunst i Oslo.
Torsheim er framleis aktiv både som kunstnar og musikar. I Sunnfjord er han sett på som ein slags kultfigur; han er kledd veldig karakteristisk med dei svarte kleda sine og det raude skjerfet. I 2003 vart det avduka ein statue av han i Førde. Denne er laga av Stig Eikaas og tener som vert for cachen!
Musikken til Oddvar Torsheim er av mange sett på som noko særeige. Han har vorte kritisert av folk som meiner at han ikkje syng reint, men lagar sine eigne tonar. Om dette seier han sjølv: «Eg kallar det for terapeutiske sidesprang når eg syng. Jobben min er jo biletmakar, men ein blir jo aldeles galen viss ein berre skal gå og lage bilete heile livet. […] Det er vel eit nynorsk primalskrik, dette her. Eg kan vel ikkje syngje, men eg har eit utmerka fråspark, for eg er gammal lengdehoppar.»

Oddvar Torsheim is a versatile artist: He is a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, poet, songwriter and musician. Torsheim studied at the Graphic School in Charlottenborg, Denmark and Bergen Arts and Crafts School in Norway. He grew up in Rovde, Sunnmøre and Naustdal, Sunnfjord, but has lived in Førde for many years.
In his oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and graphics he ridicules prejudices and conventional thinking by use of a surreal fantasy and a tendency of social criticism. He has published several collections of poetry with illustrations, e.g. Syner i syttiåra (‘Visions in the Seventies’, 1980) og Svarte kvitingar i 80-åra (‘Black Whites in the 80’s’, 1999), as well as the music CD’s Nynorskens skog (‘Neo-Norwegian Wood’, 1992) and Tur-Retur Blues (‘Return Ticket Blues’, 2000). He is represented at the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo.
Torsheim is still active both as an artist and musician. In the Sunnfjord district he is seen as a kind of cult figure, being dressed very distinctively with black clothes and a red scarf. In 2003, a statue of him was unveiled in Førde. This is made by Stig Eikaas and serves as host for the cache!
Oddvar Torsheim’s music is seen by many as something quite out of the ordinary. He has been criticised by people who think that he sings falsely, and that he makes his own pitches. With his traditional twinkle in the eye, he has said that ‘I call my singing a therapeutic escapade. My real job is to make paintings and drawings, but you would get completely mad if that is only what you do all your life. […] I guess it is a Neo-Norwegian primal scream. I do not sing well, but I have an excellent thrust, because I used to do long jumps.’ [Neo-Norwegian is one of the two written forms of Norwegian.]
