In Hamurg geboren, entdeckte Bertha schon früh ihre Liebe zur Natur. Mit 14 Jahren begann sie in Rostock eine Blumenbinderlehre. Nach dem 1. Weltkrieg und dem Verlust ihres Mannes, verschlug es Bertha nach Schwerin. Dort verdiente sie sich ihren Lebensunterhalt als Blumenfrau. Stets trug sie eine traditionelle Rehnaer Tracht und wurde so zum echten "Schweriner Original".
Nach der Wiedervereinigung 1990, im Alter von bereits 91 Jahren, sammelte Bertha K. aus Eigeninitiative 17 000 Unterschriften für die Ernennung ihrer geliebten Stadt Schwerin zur Landeshauptstadt von Mecklenburg - Vorpommern.
Für diese Leistung erhielt Bertha Klingenberg als Erste und bisher Einzige den Ehrenring der Landeshauptstadt Schwerin und wurde 2002 zur Ehrenbürgerin ernannt.

Bertha Klingberg- the flower woman
Born in Hamurg, Bertha discovered her love for nature at an early age. At the age of 14 she began an apprenticeship as a flower maker in Rostock.
After the First World War and the loss of her husband, Bertha moved to Schwerin. There she earned her living as a flower woman. She always wore traditional Rehnaer costume and thus became a real "Schwerin original".
After reunification in 1990, at the age of 91, Bertha K. collected 17,000 signatures on her own initiative for the appointment of her beloved city Schwerin to the state capital of Mecklenburg - Western Pomerania.
For this achievement Bertha Klingenberg was the first and so far the only one to receive the ring of honor of the state capital Schwerin and was made an honorary citizen in 2002.
