For rock and roll aficionados and geocachers alike. This is the third in a series of caches I've created that will bring you to an iconic rock & roll album cover site location around NYC. This one is from the cover of Neil Young's third studio album, "After the Gold Rush.” The most familiar track is "Southern Man.” The cover art is a solarized image of Young, walking past New York University School of Law, passing a “little old lady.” He was in fact walking with Graham Nash towards a CSNY gig, and Nash can be found in some of the photos from this shoot.
The picture was taken by 18-year-old Joel Bernstein, who grew up to become a famous rock photographer. The shot he wanted, and needed, snapped in the moment when Young and the little old lady crossed paths, was reportedly out of focus. It was because of this he decided to mask the blurred face by solarizing the image. Young liked the spooky affect.
Try to take a picture of yourself in the same pose and angle and post it in the gallery. Walking in the downtown direction at the NW corner of Sullivan & West 3rd. Extra points for crossing paths with a little old lady. For a change of tune, check out my cache Zeppelin’s Sixth.
NOTE : This is not on or about the fence, etc.
NOTE: Use a coin to gently pry open the cammo cover.
