Hidden closed to a ruinous shooting-box. It’s a wonderful trekking destination, you could find everything, you may see bears and foxes too. Once we found a fox’s hole not so far away from the path.
Fields breaking the timber-tree woods, thick pine-trees, and the view from the top is amazing.
There are two paths reaching the top, the red cross starts at the Csilla-pension, the blue cross starts from the village Szakadat. The length of the trip is about 16 kms (10 miles) on each path, the fall is about 500 meter (1.600 feet). There are a few dirt road in the woods, but it’s hard to be used by car, even with a Dacia too. With a jeep of course it’s not problem to go on, but then you miss a right walk on the mountain…
The Bekecs-peak is the part of the Muntii Gurghiu southern backbone with an altitude of 1080 m (3.600 feet). You find it in Transylvania, in county Mures, the Nyarad-valley borders from NW, the Târnava Mica from SE.
That peak offers beautiful view from the top, to the south you can see the Southern Carpatian Mountains, to the north you see the Muntii Gurghiu.
In the later XX. century there were ruins of an old zion, nowadays a new one will be built with the help of the neighbouring villages.
That area was a place for some Hungarian victorious combat int he First WW, you could see some trenches and two military tombs around.
Every year, at the beginning of October, the villages do a trip to the top, remembering to the heroes of these combats.
