Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official
end of World War I on that date in 1918. On this day each year the
tradition includes either one or two minutes of silence at the
eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (11am, 11
November), as that marks the time (in the UK) when armistice became
effective. The red poppy has also become a familiar emblem of
Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields". These poppies
bloomed across the battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their
red colour a symbol for the blood spilt in the war.
Given the significance of the day and time, it probably isn't
appropriate to have a geocaching event at 11am or thereabouts - so
I have decided to have an event based on 11:11 Karachi time (17:11
local time).
It will only be a relatively short duration event - with a prize
draw at approximately 17:45.
I have had special Tealby 11/11/11 pathtags minted for the
event. To be in the running to win one of the pathtags you will
need to do some work in advance of the event.
Step 1: Log a "will attend" in the form of an
acrostic poem with a remembering theme from your caching
name. The remembering theme should have something to do with
caching. For example my rather lame "will attend" log could
read:
Tankengine hid the first cache I found,
Excitement abounded all around,
Another cache was soon hunted out,
Lots and lots of searching about,
But the end result was a DNF; which goes to show,
You should never count your chickens!
Step 2: Attend the event, (ideally) wearing a red poppy
& be signed in before 17:45 when I will draw the winners from
those in attendance who complied with Step 1. I have at least 20
pathtags to give away & will give out more if responses warrant
it. I will also automatically award a pathtag to any particularly
good acrostics - and may even do so for folks who are unable to
attend the event (but no guarantees on this).
