This traditional cache may be the westernmost cache of Europe. I placed it during my trip with ubahnsurfer and derpartysan through this wonderful country this June. The Westfjords is probably the part of Iceland which impressed me the most. It's so quiet and beautiful here.
The place I placed the cache is called Látrabjarg. It's the edge of Europe and a place where hundreds of birds have their homes.
As the "Official Tourist Map" says, the Látrabjarg cliffs are possibly the cliffs of all cliffs and home of unfathomable nubers of birds. This westernmost point of Iceland (and Europe if the Azores are not counted) is really a line of several cliffs, 14 kilometers long and up to 441 meters high. And it's as steep as it gets, dizzyingly so. Safe from foxes.the birds are fearless and provide stunning photographic opportunities from close range. Bird photographyfor dummies, you might say. The puffins are particularly tame and are the ones frequenting the grassy, higher parts of the cliffs. But look out, the edges are fragile and loose and the fall is high.
Látrabjarg is thus deseredly the most visited tourist attraction in the Westfjords. The cliffs are easily accessible by car and when you're there, a walk along the cliffs awaits. The whirling sensation will not fade, and neither will the memories. Látrabjarg is on the National Geographic's top-10 list for the best ocean views in the world.
Please park your car at the parking coordinates and walk from here. Take some time and let the place sink in. The cache is not that difficult hidden and I think you can find it easily. Please place the canister as you found it so it can last over the years. The logbook has enough place for some time and there should be a pen in it. But in case have one with you.
