06-Dowagiac River Kayak Adventure Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Tsmola: I know I said I was going to wait until November to archive these. But the last group to go through only found a couple caches still in place. I honestly didn't expect this trail to be in that bad of shape. With that few containers in place, I really don't see the point in stringing this one along for another month and a half. Also, there are other, much better water trails in place currently, I'd rather people spent their time on those. I originally placed this trail to get more people to get out kayaking and I'd say they accomplished their goal in this area.

I don't plan to replace these, so please, someone else, feel fee to fill the river up again!

My apologies to anyone who didn't get to do these, I kept them alive for as long as I could, but the time has come. Thanks to everyone who came and visited from near and far over the years and the great memories!

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Dowagiac River Kayak Adventure Series! This series of caches stretches along the Dowagiac River from roughly M-51 to just south of M-62 in Dowagiac. This series can only be done via watercraft, I recommend a kayak or canoe. The river is slightly faster here than for my Dowagiac Creek series. I recommend you hit the creek series first if you've never gone paddling on a river before. In this series, you'll paddle through quiet fields filled with crops or livestock, under road and abandoned train bridges, and through quiet stretches of woods. This series is designed to be done entirely from the comfort of your canoe/kayak. Caches are wired in place, sign and replace the log right in the boat. Bring along a pair of tweezers or a small length of wire to help you get the log out of these containers. Please initial the log only to save space.

Please note that this series was placed when the water was at a decent level, if the water gets too low, it will be a lot harder. If you are not from the area, feel free to send me an email a few days ahead of time and I can check the level of the river for you.

Bring along sunscreen, some snacks and a cooler full of drinks. You are in for a long day on the water. You will get dirty, you might get wet! Bring your camera and post some pictures of your adventure for all to see on #1's cache page. I have included coordinates to a couple of suitable parking areas for this series, I recommend you get several friends together and park a vehicle a ways down the river, otherwise you'll be facing about a 10 mile round trip paddle to get all 40. This section of the river is also very popular for muggles to canoe and kayak in the summer months, so use stealth where needed.
