Geocache Description:

Hidden Treasures of North Florida
Lake City

This series of geocaches was placed to highlight the Hidden Treasures and “off the beaten path” places that make up Natural North Florida. It seems fitting to us to create a treasure map for the place traversed by one of America’s first treasure hunters, Hernando DeSoto, a Spanish explorer who forged the DeSoto Trail through the region in 1532. Natural North Florida is rich with Spanish, Native American, Civil War and “cracker” heritage. There are off-beat and old-fashioned towns to explore where you can still savor a slice of life from bygone days. This region is also home to the largest collection of natural springs in the world, wonderfully quiet recreational rivers and trails, and world-class flora and fauna. We hope you can further explore our region at: www.OriginalFlorida.org or call 1-877-746-4778 Toll-Free for more information.
The Original Florida Tourism Task Force is a predominantly rural non-proft organization, composed of 13 counties in North Central Florida—from Gainesville to Cedar Key to Tallahassee and White Springs.

Background: Housed in the 1870 home of the first Clerk of Courts for Columbia County, the museum includes a permanent exhibit gallery of Columbia County and North Florida photography, a room devoted to the history of the Civil War in North Florida, and a small library of North Florida history. In addition, the museum exhibits collections both historical and art from local and state contributors. The museum is located in the downtown historic district around Lake Isabella. Also check out the cafes and renaissance of historic downtown Lake City. Open to Public Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

BTW: : If you are there during the time it is open, be sure to ask about Aunt Aggie’s Bone Yard!!
