Geocache Description:

This spot marked the absolute beginning a one of the country's biggest and most successful dynasties and the first of one of the most fierce rivalries.

I was floored when I found this location. I have lived in Birmingham for 36 years and had passed this site literally hundreds of times. I had no idea this is where it all began. There is a marker placed by the Alabama Historical Commission noting the huge sporting historical significance of the location. There is a large building and parking lot on the site now, but to stand here and close your eyes you can almost imagine the events that must have taken place here. From the roots of the new city called Birmingham, this began in 1893 and evolved as a tradition that carries on today. The once a year event makes friends become enemies, families turn on each other, and it all began here. To say more would surely give it away, so I will stop here. The site was featured on regional TV during the week of 08/31/2002 which got my attention and even though it didn't tell where it is, it took some digging through the history books to find it. Go there and look upon it, bring your fanatic friends to it and be reverent. Sorry, for this one, no hints. The site itself would be spoiled. The marker is visible and readable from the road, so to see it you don't even have to get out of the car.

There are 4 numbers, divided by a hypen on this marker. To verify your find tell me via e-mail specifically what these numbers are on the marker.
