Geocache Description:

You will visit both the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, on the corner of Jefferson and 6th Street, and the Lincoln Public Library, on the corner of Capitol Ave. and 7th Street in Springfield, IL. At the coordinates given you identify information from objects and then compute the coordinates of the final cache. The final container is a small Lock-n-Lock which can hold TBs.

Stage 1: (use the coordinates above)

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library is a center for research and study of the life and times of Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War. In addition to the Abraham Lincoln research material, the library also includes material that is useful for anyone researching his or her genealogy. A large collection of Civil War era information is also available.

Hours of Operation: MTTF: 9:00-4:30, W 9:00-8:30, Saturday 9:00-3:30, closed on Sunday.

At the corrdinates given you will find a dedication stone in the wall.

Record the following information

AB. Year dedicated _____.

C.  Middle initial of individual named _____.

Stage 2: N 39° 47.904 W 089° 38.749

This is the 'first' Lincoln Library in Springfield and the name causes a great deal of confusion for out-of-town visitors. This library has the Sangamon Valley Collection, which is useful when researching the history of the local area.

At the coordinates given you will find a statute of Lincoln. The artist’s name is on the back-right corner.

Record the following information:

D. First name (initial) _____.

E. The number of letters in the last name _____.

F. The last letter of the last name _____.

Stage 3:
Parking at N 39° 47.412 W 089° 40.626
[Do not park on road sides, thanks!]

Using the information collected above and the decoding table, find the coordinates of the last stage.

While searching for the cache, stay on trails – there is no need to walk on the vegetation (ivy). The cache is within 5-10 feet of the trail.

Cache is at N 39 47.ABC W 089 40.DEF, where:

AB = Four-digit year divided by 54 (use the integer part only)

C  = convert the letter using the table below

D  = convert the letter using the table below

E  = number of letters

F  = convert the letter using the table below

Lincoln Decoder Key
E B O N A P T H G S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

Checksum: If your math and letter matching are correct, A + B + C + D + E + F = 35.
