Geocache Description:

You probably think that Blyn Pinstripes is a dumb name for a lookout site cache, but that's what we very nearly added to our less than 2-day-old new car when we ventured up here. But don't let that keep you from this cache.

We've got quite a collection of old maps -- some Logbear has had for years, some were given to us by my father. We were using one of those on our way up here. Being unfamiliar with the area, we picked one of several roads that went through. But we shortly realized that we had picked the wrong one as the road became narrower and narrower, and the bushes grew closer and closer together, finally brushing the side of the newest geo-vehicle. Finally I could take it no longer and made LogBear back us out until we could turn around. We quickly picked another route, and that made all the difference! As it turned out, that first road never went through. (You'll know you're on the right track when you see the boat!)

About the Blyn Lookout:
Originally built in 1934, the Blyn Lookout was a 90' pole tower with an 8x8' cabin. Living quarters were located on the gournd. It was replaced in 1960 by a 40' timber DNR tower with a live-in cabin. It was abandoned in 1969. Sometime during the 1970s, the cabin and top 10' of the tower were moved to Beausite Lake in Jefferson County. Today, the usual assortment of modern man's technology take the place of the lookout. In the years since the lookout has disappeared, trees have grown making the view, at best, peek-a-boo. However, the lookout's cement pier blocks still remain.

About the cache:
  • You can drive to the lookout site.
  • Except for a very brief walk into the woods, this is very nearly a drive-by cache.
  • You are looking for a regular sized Lock 'n' Lock.
  • Please return the cache as you found it.
  • The sats are likely to be a bit wonky at the cache site, so hints are provided.
  • Congrats to ??? on the FTF.
