Geocache Description:

The path that the Upper Tamar Lake caches follow is good and almost level all the way round. It is possible to cycle around Upper Tamar Lake. The route around the lake is 2.8 miles long. The linear river walk which takes in Courting Days is about 1.25 miles long. The walk, which is linear, to include the Lower Tamar Lake caches is just over 1 mile too.

This series of caches has been put out in memory of my Dad who sadly passed away suddenly in April. He always said to us 'Going Geo-nutcasing today then?' So I wanted to place some caches in an appropriate place and use this in their titles. As a child I spent a lot of time at Tamar Lake as Dad used to enjoy fly fishing and often went there to try and catch a trout. He continued to fish all through his life and actually caught a 10lb trout just before he died which he was very proud of (not at Tamar Lake). So I hope you all enjoy going geo-nutcasing today and finding this series of caches.
The reservoir known as the Upper Tamar Lake was constructed between 1973 and 1975 and consists of a concrete dam and flooded valley. It is about eighty acres in area with a capacity of around 1477 Million Litres. It cost £1.5 million, and was officially opened in October 1977. It is owned by South West Water and supplies the water needs of Bude, Cornwall and the surrounding area. To the South is Lower Tamar Lake.
Upper Tamar Lake is used for sailing and other water sports. It is a very popular fishing lake, stocked with Carp, Bream Rudd, Roach, Perch, Eels.
The car park at N50 52.743 W004 26.051 is a pay and display car park. At the time of placing charges were: £2.00 up to 2 hours £3.00 2-4 hours £4.00 all day or you can park at Lower Tamar Lake N50 52.282 W004 25.521
There are toilets here and a seasonal cafe which is open from 11am-4pm
The lake is managed by the South West Lakes Trust and I would like to thank them for allowing us to place these caches.
