An easy cache to find, close by the car park, or so I thought...
The actual cache is located close by the Bell. Cache co-ords above
take you to the Bell. Well, where the Bell used to be... As you
will see it is missing. Some of the locals think the fairies have
got it... and strangely enough, depending on the time of day, if
you stand side on and keek at the bell sideways it's there sure
enough. Anyway near to the above co-ordinates is a Legacy of Tom
Weir who sadly passed away 6 July 2006 at the grand old age of
91. Please take time to wander onto the trails behind the
buildings: there are some beautiful walks, waterfalls and abundant
wildlife. Finally if you're feeling peckish the tearoom does superb
scones and much much more.
Nearby are:
Old St Machan's Church
The Clachan Church and Graveyard, in their picturesque setting,
have always been a major attraction for visitors to Campsie
Glen.
The church took its name from St Machan, who brought Christianity
to Campsie during the Dark Ages. After travels to Ireland and
Italy, he erected a small chapel at the foot of the Glen and used
an adjacent well for baptisms.
On his death, he was buried at the site and the first parish church
was erected over his grave around 1175. Also nearby is the
Schoenstatt Shrine
Run by the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary and offers the perfect
setting to reflect, and find peace and tranquillity. The Shrine
dedicated to Our Lady of Schoenstatt has become a place of
pilgrimage for thousands of people each year
The Shrine and House are open throughout the year, with the grounds
providing pleasant walks suitable for the disabled.
The cache itself is at N 55° 59.3AB W 004° 13.7CD
which is a small BDH container wrapped in a green gortex
Jacket.
The clues are found by the number of letters in certain words in
the text of the Legacy of Tom Weir
A = No: of letters in the fourth word after Everest.
B = The first digit of the date after Glasgow
C = No: of letters in the seventh word after Weir in the first
line
D = No: of letters in the fifth word of the sixth line
