Welcome to Üügu pank: The largest and grandest cliff in Muhumaa!
This cliff is a good example of the sequence of the lowest beds of the Jaagarahu stage, the shape and bioherms and the effects that the coastal erosion of the Limnea Sea had on the cliff. The upper part of the cliff's is composed of the dolomitized bioherms with the thickness of 1-3 m that formed in the warm and shallow sea of the Silurian era. Bioherms are sedimentary formations from the remnants of various organisms and lime mud and they have no internal bedding. The bioherms are situated side-by-side on the precipice, which later, by joining, have formed the current large tough limestone underlying soft domerites crust. Hard platy irregular bedded dolostones surround and underlay and together form a hard shield protecting the underlying soft domerites (carbonate rock with large clay content) of the Jaani stage from erosion. The deeper Jaani stage, which by now has been buried under the talus, can still be sensed in the form of small springs that flow out on the border between the Jaagarahu and Jaani stages. These create unique sloping bog on the cliff precipice.

Üügu pank on hea näide jaagarahu lademe alumiste lasundite, biohermide ning Limneamere erosiooni tagajärgedega tutvumiseks. Panga ülemised kihid paksusega 1-3 meetrit moodustavad dolomiidistunud biohermid, mis moodustusid Siluri ajastul madalas ja soojas meres. Biohermid on settelise tekkega, nad on moodustunud organismide jäänustest ja lubjarikkast mudast ning neil puudub sisemine kihistatus. Järsakul paljandub kõrvuti mitu biohermi, mis hiljem liitudes on moodustanud nüüdse suure rahkja pae kõviku. Selle all asub pehmem domeriidikiht. Pealmine dolokivist kiht kaitseb allpool asuvat pehmeid jaani lademe domeriite (karbonaatne suure savisisaldusega kivim) erosiooni eest. Sügavamal asuv jaani lade on praeguseks enamast mattunud rusukalde alla, kuid on siiski äratuntav allikate juures, mis voolavad välja jaagararhu ja jaani lademete puutepinnalt.
