Geocache Description:

Located in Elmhurst's East End Park

This park was once part of the Albert Bucholz farm and 18 acres were purchased by the Elmhurst Park District in 1929. The land was developed in 1936 when the Park Board voted to issue $60,300 in bonds - a portion of the funds was used to construct the community's first public pool, a bath house, a caretaker's residence, and tennis courts. The community pool had its grand opening on June 26, 1937. In 1953, the District sold 3.5 acres to the Division of Highways for the building of I-290. Additional Bucholz property was acquired in 1972. That same year, the original tennis courts were razed and replaced with four lighted courts north of the pool. Major pool renovations were made in 1972 and 1991.

The original pool was demolished in 2006. The new pool opened on Saturday, June 2, 2007, 70 years after the original.
