Geocache Description:

St Mary's Church Erpingham

The church has a very tall tower dating from the 15th century but the chancel and nave are much older. It does seem to be some distance from the village of Erpingham, but is only half a mile across the fields from the site of Erpingham manor house, very near to the present day village hall. Sir Thomas Erpingham was Marshall of Henry V's army at Agincourt in charge of the english archers and winning the great victory there. He is buried in Norwich Cathedral and Erpingham gate there was built by him.

Some also believe that the original village was closer to the church but moved after The Black Death, but there is no evidence to support this.

The church is usually open during daylight hours and is very interesting to explore. There is plenty of information inside.

It has large grounds with some interesting trees and 2 very welcome seats.

There is a large car park. If refreshment is required there are various establishments fairly close by, depending on time of the day of course.

The cache is not within the church grounds. You will need to turn left out of the car park and walk up the road just a little way

You are looking for a small container which has space for a few small swaps.

FTF goes to the SuffieldHunters - well done (BigFidgit wins the bet!!!)

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list
