Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the published co-ords. They will take you to the south porch of the lovely little church of St John The Baptist in the village of Dorton in Buckinghamshire.

The church and graveyard are within the grounds of Ashfold School, who are aware of this cache. The final container is not on church or school property. Please ONLY APPROACH along the public footpath from the north, and not past the school buildings. Under no circumstances should you attempt to park in school grounds.

The earliest parts of the church building date from the 12th century, when it consisted of an aisle-less nave and chancel. The south aisle was added about 1340, and the chancel was widened in the 16th century and windows added. The stained glass in the east window is modern 20th century.

The font bowl dates from the 12th century. The doorway is 15th century, with the door itself made of studded oak battens probably dating from the 13th century. The fine early 13th century hinges are notable, representing C for St Clement, the patron saint of blacksmiths.

A laminated notice just inside the south door to the left gives a lot more detail about the building and its history.

This is a straightforward multi cache, and to locate the final container you will need to collect values from three locations including the churchyard. Insert your values into the following equation:

N51° 49.ABC W1° 0D.EFG

Parking WP 1, a house adjacent to suitable on-street parking (but please don’t obstruct any entrances). B is the number of letters in the first element of the house name on the oval black plaque featuring a sea creature.

Additional WP 2, a telegraph pole on the north side of the footpath to the church. About 6 feet up is a small plastic label with two rows of numbers and one row of letters. The number of letters that have been punched out will give you F.

Additional WP 3, the bench at the northern end of the churchyard, where:
A is the alphabetical value of the first letter of the surname.
C is the total number of letter Ns in the whole name.
D is the final digit of the earlier year.
E is the total number of letter Cs in the whole name.
G is the total number of letter Ts in the whole name.

In all cases drop the leading digit of two digit values

The cache is not in the church or school grounds. It is a short walk away on a public footpath.
