Geocache Description:

Trinity Groves - New Restaurant Development Area

Grid Master Series

This cache is a part of the Grid Master Bonus Cache. Pay attention to every cache in the series as they have the clues you use for the BONUS!

This series was inspired on a trip to Austin Texas Thanksgiving 2012 where our entire family had one of the most bonding and fun times in years. In North Austin a small set of tree climbs for all ages were hid and everyone in the family had a great time. Though not challenging for everyone the entire family had such a great time trying to figure out how to negotiate each cache, you will see a lot inspiration from that series here in these hides. Almost all tree associated hides are tethered with galvanized material with room for organic growth.
Please do not move them from their placed locations. I have found from on a lot of the tree climb caches I have done folks tend to move the cache to lower branches after signing. This will impact the integrity of series if you do this.
This Difficulty/Terrain Grid Series cover all 81 ratings in the D/T grid mostly relying on challenging you physically at all levels in a predominately urban area. Every cache is within a 12 minute drive of downtown Dallas. I am not good at the mental puzzles so there are only some fun field puzzles to figure out that all my kids solved when we did our final site location validation process (SLVP).

Every cache below a terrain rating of 4.5 I had both my Ten and Fourteen year olds show they could extract and negotiate the log to a position where they could safely sign it. Also note that in some cases I needed to provide an initial boost or hand hold that most adults won't need. As always, do what you feel is safe. If I indicated I used equipment – I will indicate where I had – chances are it’s scary for most.

Here are some hints how I determined Terrain ratings to help in your efforts. In most cases the terrain rating is the standard distance travelled from primary parking location I used to deploy the cache plus an Altimeter variable that takes into consideration not only the climb but the distance and elevation hiked. I have a long explanation if you have questions about my rating.

Here are the basics:
1 = Below the knees or subterranean.
1.5 = Knee caps to the top of my head (I'm 5' 9")
2 = as high as two body lengths. (From here to a 4.5 rating chances are you're going to need to use upper body strength.)
2.5 = Add .5 of a body length to a 2 rating
3 = Add .4 of a body length to a 2.5 rating
3.5 = Add .3 of a body length to a 3 rating
4 = Add .2 of a body length to 3.5 rating
4.5 = this rating, like 5 below, can be extremely high. My kids all used safety gear on the SLVP climbs. if they could not attain three points of contact I strapped them up and belied.
5 = Wild Card. It's a five for a reason and in all but one 5 Terrain rated cache innovation, ingenuity, physical strength, equipment and stamina may all be needed in order to attain Grid Master Status.

If you sign and return the cache to its original position without damaging the initial hiding spot you get a smiley.

If you get:
50; you are a Monkey Cacher and get the gratification of how much healthier you are having done this cross training exercise not provided in most caches.

75; a Squirrel (A PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT SERIES PATHTAG AWARD)

All 82; an Ant (REAL SILVER PLATED GEOCOIN AWARD*– SEE ALR** BELOW FOR REDEMPTION REQUIREMENTS)

If you do it from Mid-March to September add Mega- in front of those designations and that x-ray vision must do you well in life.

*To recognize your personal achievement in completing this series I have minted a real silver plated geocoin that I will give to anyone that achieved the ALRs outlined below. This series will be available until the series is archived March of 2014.

**GEOCOIN ADDITIONAL LOGGING REQUIREMENTS (ALRs): if you are going for the personal achievement silver plated geocoin you must log all 81 geocaches within the series this cache resides plus the bonus cache. Please note, this is not a challenge cache, rather a personal achievement award as outlined by the Groundspeak Guidelines.  IN ADDITION, OF ALL 82 IN THIS SERIES, IF THE CACHE HAS A TERRAIN RATING OF 4.5 OR 5 YOU MUST POST A PICTURE OF YOU WITH THE LOG IN YOUR HAND AND THE CACHE CONTAINER IN ITS ORIGINAL HIDING LOCATION IN THE BACKGROUND FOR THE GEOCOIN. THIS TO PREVENT ONE PERSON DOING THE WORK FOR A GROUP. I HAVE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION THIS IN THE RATINGS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU ARE CLOSE TO GETTING ALL 82 SO I CAN PLACE THE GEOCOIN IN THE EPIC FINAL CONTAINER. TRUST ME THEIR WILL BE NEEDED COORDINATION AS I WILL WANT PICTURES TOO.

As an added note, I lost 15 lbs. deploying this series. Geocaching is a great way to stay in shape.
