O Algarve não são só as praias.
Durante séculos foi a serra que em conjunto com a pesca
constituíram a fonte de rendimento da sua população.
É na imensidão da Serra do Caldeirão que se encontra Cachopo, uma
pequena aldeia do séc. XVI.
Há inúmeros pontos de interesse em Cachopo para além da cache
localizada na Fonte Férrea, onde é obrigatório ir no mínimo dar um
mergulho na piscina, ou fazer um belo churrasco e passar umas horas
bem agradáveis.
Chegado a Cachopo a 1ª coisa a fazer é estacionar o carro. Está
numa aldeia, nada é longe e o carro não consegue circular em grande
parte das ruas. Também não vai conseguir levar o carro até à
cache... embora alguns o vão tentar, para variar.
Tem havido (2007) um grande investimento por parte da autarquia
nesta vila e estão em finalização grandes obras que vao mudar a sua
cara. A igreja foi totalmente reconstruída e requalificada. Todos
os cabos, postes e afins foram aterrados e refeito todo o
pavimento, das principais ruas junto à igreja, em xisto.
O ideal será deslocar-se ao Núcleo Museológico para conhecer
melhor o que pode visitar na região. Também podem seguir esta
sugestão retirada do site visitalgarve.pt. Trata-se do roteiro
Pela Serra do Caldeirão. Por um dia, deitem fora a praia (aliás
agora no Verão já nem vale a pena ir à praia :), deixem em casa o
nacional-botabaixismo e conheçam o Algarve profundo. Como prémio
neste roteiro é possível fazer umas 6 caches. Garanto-vos que vão
gostar do passeio. Saiam cedo que é coisa para vos consumir um dia
inteiro. Eis o texto referente a Cachopo:
"Percorrendo as ruas é de registar a
arquitectura tradicional serrana, as casas em xisto ou caiadas,
poiais, beirados, fornos comunitários, eiras, fornalhas e chaminés
rendilhadas. As maravilhas do artesanato local encontram-se numa
unidade de tecelagem manual onde podemos adquirir ou encomendar
excelentes peças ou simplesmente conhecer as técnicas antigas e
como funcionavam os teares. Subindo as ruelas que conduzem à Igreja
de Santo Estevão, passamos pelas oficinas do albardeiro e do
ferreiro, dois artesãos que ainda trabalham como nos outros tempos
e que podem ser visitados. Paramos depois para uma visita à Igreja
de Santo Estevão um templo com uma só nave e um altar-mor com
imagens de Santo Estevão e São Sebastião, ambas do séc. XVIII"
Há 2 restaurantes onde pode comer descansadamente uma boa refeição
por um preço justo. São ambos junto à estrada principal embora não
seja fácil estacionar perto.
As casas circulares são construções de xisto de origem céltica com
telhados cónicos de colmo ou junco que serviam de habitação. Hoje
estão transformadas em palheiros. Era importante que autarquia
recuperasse também estes vestígios.
Não é preciso inventar muito para chegar até às Casas Circulares.
Existe um passeio todo em xisto, recentemente recuperado pela
autarquia. Se não encontrarem o caminho perguntem a qualquer pessoa
da aldeia. Das casas é possível ver Cachopo por outro
prisma.

A cache não tem nada de especial.
Especial é estarem aí a descobrirem a aldeia e desfrutarem de

There's more to Algarve than the
beach. For centuries the mountain along with fishing were the
primary incoming source of the population.Cachopo a small vilage
from the 16th century, is located in the vast Serra do
Caldeirão.
There are several interesting places in Cachopo besides the cache
located at Fonte Férrea where you should take a refreshng bath on
the pool, or you can spend some hours making a barbecue with your
familie.
Upon arriving Cachopo park your car.
You're in a small village. Everything is close by and your car
can't enter most of the small streets. You can't take the car to
the cache also and I'm sure you won't try it.
There have been (2007) big investments in the village. The church
has been fully rebuilt, all the cables are now under ground, and
the streets near the church are now made of schist, the region
stone.
You should go to the Núcleo Museológico in order to obtain a list
of the most intresting places to visit in the region.
You can also follow the sugestion on
the visitalgarve.pt site. It's a car drive
Pela Serra do Caldeirão. You won't regret to replace the boring
beach for this fantastic trip to the interior of Algarve. You will
understand why many of the foreigners that visit our country end up
by building a villa and choose these region to spend most of the
year. As a day reward you can found 6 caches along the drive. It
will take you a full day and you're going to love every minute.

"In the village you should visit the
small museum, which paints an accurate picture of life in the
“serra” uplands. When you’re walking through the streets watch out
for the schist or whitewashed houses, traditional stone benches,
the eaves of the roofs, the community ovens, threshing floors,
furnaces and intricately decorated chimneys. You can purchase
pieces of local handicrafts or learn about age old hand weaving
techniques in a weaving workshop. Then you can climb the small
streets that lead up to the Church of Saint Steven, and after
visiting the church you can pass by and take a look at the
pack-saddle maker’s and the blacksmith’s"
There are 2 restaurants where you can have a decent meal for a
fair price. They're both near the main road but it's difficult to
park near by.
The circular houses (Casas
Circulares) are made of schist are have Celtic origin. Nowadays
they're used as barns. Let's hope someday these houses can be
restored. After all they are part of our culture.It's not difficult
to get to the cache place. There is a schist street recentrly
recovered the leads you to the place. If you can't find it ask
anybody on the village for Casas Circulares. From there you can
grab a totally disntinct Cachopo's perspective.

cache. Only the day you'll pass discovering Algarve's interior
would be a special one in your visit to our
