Let's meet up at Paynetown and celebrate the death of the chiggers! Come sign the log, and if you so choose, hike with us afterward. The hiking is not necessary, however, to log the event. Just show up with a smile. A donut might be good, too.
The Paynetown trails or "Pate Hollow" are hiked a lot, so they are very clearly marked. It makes for an easy hike. There are caches that will require some bushwhacking to get to, but nothing crazy.
Before Sunrises and I discovered geocaching, Deermark had TrailMix 4 here at Paynetown. It was a night event, and it looks like people camped. A bit later, Bloomington Geocachers had a trailmix here, involving yellow jackets. Then, on January 16, 2011 (just about a month after we had started caching and still thought "trailmix" had to do with nuts and fruit), the Bloomington Geocachers had a Pate Hallow hike here. Obviously, these woods are full of geocaching ghosts.
Some of the caches remain from those three hikes, while others have gone by the way side. This summer, Road found there was enough room to hide some more (and some more -- hint! hint!). Unfortunately, we also found that chiggers are alive and well in these woods. So, instead of July, the month that TrailMix 4 took place, we're having this trail mix in November, after the first frost and the death of the chiggers.
