Geocache Description:

In memory of one of California's original geocachers, Iron Chef, who passed away at age 33, in a bike accident last year. This cache is placed near the site of his Great Wall of Gorda hide.

Iron Chef (from his online Geocaching gallery)

This cache is placed in memory of geocacher, Iron Chef, who was an early adopter of GPS technology and geocaching. He became a member on April 20, 2001 and hid his first cache three days later. Some of the oldest caches in California belong to Iron Chef. He was known for placing spoons as swag in large ammo boxes, many of which were placed in out-of-the-way spots. It is always a treat to find an Iron Chef oldie and we encourage others to seek them out while they are still around.

Iron Chef was killed just before sunset along a narrow but well-traveled two-lane road east of Santa Maria surrounded by strawberry fields and low hills. It was 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 and he was riding his recumbent bicycle in a long distance trip from San Jose to Solvang, then back up to San Luis Obispo. To read more about his life see the related web page link at the top of this cache page.

One of his favorite quotes was:
"Keep walking, though there's no place to get to. Don't try to see through the distances. That's not for human beings. Move within, but don't move the way fear makes you move" -Rumi (1207-1273)
