Geocache Description:

This cache is another in the Foothills school sign series.  Parking is close by the schooll sign.

The organizational meeting to start a school was hold in Nov. 1908, in the home of Mr. Ford: hence the school name.

Farmers were assessed a tax rate of 5 cents per acre and a teacher, Miss Alexander was hired and paid $52 per month.  The lighting of the school fire and sweeping the floor was done by an older pupil who was paid $3 per month.  This arrangement carried on for some time but it was later decided that the fire should be started ½ hr before school started, so the lad was paid an extra 10 cents per day.  BUT the new arrangement was not to start until the school clock was fixed????? (so he could tell when ½ hr before school started?)

A new teacher was soon needed and the District applied for a teacher to be sent to Fordville and to be paid $50 per month and not be older than 72.

The school eventually had a barn built by volunteers for the horses that the pupils rode to school.  The roof was shingled by the Millarville Boy Scouts.

All community activities were held in the school, dances being the highlight with local music.  The Priddis and Millarville Agriculture Society held the Fall Fair there for many years using the school for cooking, sewing, art exhibits.

The school district was one of the last to join the amalgamated school division.  The school closed in 1952 and the pupils bussed to Millarville School.
