Swim, fish, eat ice-cream and walk it off. Drive to the southern
banks of the Kaipara Harbour and relax on Shelly Beach Reserve and
estuary. You can walk around the rocks to the left of the Shelly
Beach Wharf out to the harbour entrance. A secluded and peaceful
walk indeed.
An informal walk leads you around the clifftops and foreshore.
There’s a pa site at the north end of the beach and a great
coastal walk at low tide. You get views out to the Kaipara Harbour
mouth, with views across to Pouto (Northland).
There's a boat ramp, rock fishing, swimming and a holiday camp
store for an icecream or a feed of fish & chips.
Or bring a picnic lunch and spend the day.
As there is water nearby ankle-biters will need close
