Geocache Description:

Right off the Burr Trail out of Boulder, UT. You’ll take one of the most scenic drives of your life, and we say this after visiting several national and state parks in the last few days.

This cache was originally going to be called Inbetween Plateaus, and that’s where you’ll find yourself. It’s hard to describe the amazing descents and canyons you’ll see as you reach the cache. The location is at an overlook with beautiful terrain both below and above you. It’s also just above a great camping spot that is easy to reach, even with our Honda, but out of sight of the main road. This is great place to stop for the night, but please be tactful if the site is occupied when you search.

The current name comes from our experience while reaching the area. We were on a road/camping trip, and had been hiking for a few hours in the Escalante River Gorge. Our menu for that night called for getting a hearty burger at one of those small town diners we always drive by, and then heading out to camp. So we roll into Boulder, Ut about 15 minutes past 8:00, and EVERYTHING is closed–even the gas station. The only lit up business we can see from the main road was the Hell’s Backbone Grill. It appeared a little nicer than we were looking for, but we were hungry. The Zagat guide on the wall and the lady asking us if we had reservations started us worrying even more...and then we looked on the menu. $20 bucks and up for some really nice food. For 2 of us, plus tip, one dinner was going to run us more than we had planned on spending for food the whole trip. We considered carefully, and then raced to our car and headed 37 miles north up and over Boulder Mountain to Torrey, Utah, where we got Subway just as it was closing for the night. (Luckily, the weather was great. It snowed on us on the same mountain the next day.) Then we headed back to Boulder, into the desert, and out to the cache location to camp. Round trip over 90 miles; cost with gas and food–about $10. Well worth it. So beware–get to Boulder early if you’re looking for dinner. Hell’s Kitchen closes early and charges a ton. The cache started out with a little gum in case you’re hungry, a TB and a cachunut, and lots of new toys, so bring the family. We’ll put some Boulder themed items in the cache when we get a chance to stop by Boulder at an earlier hour. Feel free to do the same.
