No drive-by grab-and-go! This puzzle cache is for serious
geohikers! Grab your GPS and daypack and get going!
I was
inspired to place a number of caches along or close to the Big
Basin's Skyline to the Sea Trail when I noticed that there
were so few caches in the Big Basin Redwoods State Park and
that what few there were were rarely visited.
I was finally motivated to actually place my caches when I was
invited to join a birthday geocaching hike along the Skyline to the
Sea Trail from the Park's Headquarters down to Waddell Beach.
This puzzle cache (besides appropriately having a name so long
that it uses every character space available in the title field!)
will tie 12 of the caches along the Skyline to the Sea Trail
together.
The posted coordinates are NOT the final coordinates for this
geocache. You will need to gather clues from 12 established caches
along the Skyline to the Sea Trail to solve the puzzle for the
location of this "baker's dozen" bonus cache.
This puzzle cache location is N 3A BC.DEF W 12U VW.XYZ
Clues for this puzzle cache will be found at the following
caches:
1) GCQGM3:
Old Growth Cache (owner: 50sumtin)

Other caches you may want to look for along the Skyline to the
Sea Trail (or relatively close) include:
GC107VC: Silver Falls (50sumtin)
GCQEKE: Rancho del Oso (50sumtin)
GC15EJ3: Do you want to go down and rest for awhile?
GC14J7D: An Alternate Cache (50sumtin)
To qualify as a find, cachers must find this cache after finding
the others, and then post a log for this and each of the other
baker's dozen caches.
Post either:
A "Found It" for a first-time find for the cache, or
A "Write Note" if you've found the cache previously (or are a cache
owner) and are just returning to get the clue or if the cache was
unavailable due to external circumstances.
I will delete "Found It" entries for this cache if the other
baker's dozen caches do not have appropriate entries.
Enjoy the beautiful trails! And happy caching!

"I love to go
a-wandering"
I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go I love to sing
My knapsack on my back.
Val-de-ri,
Val-de-ra,
Val-de-ra, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
Val-de-re,
Val-de-ra
My knapsack on my back.
Oh! may I go a-wandering,
Until the day I die.
Oh, may I always laugh and sing
Beneath God's clear blue sky.
Val-de-re,
Val-de-ra
Val-de-ra, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
Val-de-ri,
Val-de-ra
Beneath God's clear blue sky.
NOTES:
Bring a map: GPS reception will be poor at best along most of the
trails.
One-day hike: arrange to leave vehicles at Waddell Beach and then
drive to Santa Cruz. Catch a bus from Santa Cruz Metro Center to
BIG BASIN Park HQ. When I last did this (August 2007), the bus left
on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. and arrived at Park HQ at 9:45 a.m. Bus
schedules are subject to seasonal changes: check bus schedules
ahead of time BEFORE your planned date. Fare was $1.50.
On that August 2007 hike we left Park HQ a little after 10 am and
reached the Waddell Beach sometime after 4 pm with a break for
lunch at Berry Creek Falls.
NOTES:
"Berry Creek Falls" has replaced the archived "Greyt Berry Creek
Falls."
"Horse Camp Trailhead" has replaced the archived "Horse Camp
Cache".
The missing "Big Basin Cache" replaced 6/8/8
GC19K1A: Mike Ferguson to the Rescue! Big Basin Edition placed
6/8/8 contains the same clue as Big Hiney which gives you the
option to start out along the Sunset Trail from Park HQ if you want
to.
