We are getting married here on August 15th 2013. We wanted to encourage people to visit this little-known inner-city church. Hopefully it will be open when you are there. Bohsdee's parents were married here in 1961. THE GPS SIGNAL WAS BOUNCING A LOT WHEN I PLACED THE CACHE BUT HOPEFULLY THE HINT WILL BE ENOUGH.
The parish of St Michan may be the oldest in Dublin and can certainly trace itself back to the arrival of the Normans. The present church was completed in 1816 with an extension in the late 1890s and two new chapels in 1907 and 1913. The interior is largely unaltered since the church was built with a fine balcony, a stucco-ornamented ceiling and five chandeliers. There are excellent stained glass windows, some by Harry Clarke. They look very drab from the outside but are transformed once you are inside. The park opposite the church is the site of Newgate prison which was built between 1773 and 1781 and closed in 1863. The outline of some of the foundations can be seen in the park. The area is always busy, particularly during the morning when the fruit and veg market is active so take care not to be muggled. BYOP.
