Geocache Description:

So do you think all tea comes from exotic faraway places---like China and Ceylon??
Well think again. Right here on Wadmalaw Island, just a short drive from historic Charleston, SC is America’s only tea plantation.

Tea is second only to water as the most consumed beverage in the world. Iced tea became popular at the World’s Fair in St. Louis when hot tea failed to sell during the summer heat. In the South, almost 99% of the tea is served iced. A favorite here in SC is “sweet tea” which you will find served just about everywhere---in fact you will have to specify unsweetened tea more often than not if you don’t want it pre-sweetened. In New England though, you will find asking for iced tea in any but the hottest weather will result in strange looks. Reportedly, the Irish drink more tea per capita than anyone else.

Tea making got its start in this area over a hundred years ago and there were a number of plantations that attempted to profit from raising and processing tea. Only this plantation has survived and continues to produce tea.

The cache is located along the roadway outside of the plantation gates so it is accessible 24/7. You do not need to enter the grounds to access the cache. You are looking for an ammo can.
