For the time being, I'm going to let this spot go to see if another cacher can figure out a better way to hide one here.

Geocache Description:

Flying Monkeys?

This cache is in a park at the end of Rainbow Lane. "Rainbow" makes me think of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which makes me think of "the Wizard of Oz," which makes me think of Flying Monkeys.

I first noticed this park due to the now-archived cache GCG4NF Eagle Landing. When I was studying the maps (for The Portland Thomas Map Challenge), I noticed there were now no caches nearby, so I decided to place one myself.

The park itself is little more than a vacant lot along the river, although there is definitely parking, a trash can, and a picnic table. I've stopped by a few times over the years, and the park has always been very quiet. The last time I was here, there was a little pedestrian boat ramp to launch a canoe or kayak, but when I went out to place the cache yesterday the ramp was not evident... possibly underwater? I'm not sure who maintains this park, and if they might replace the boat ramp in spring.

GPSr reception near the cache wasn't that great for me, even on a clear day. You definitely don't have to pass any "No Trespassing" signs, and you shouldn't have to struggle through the blackberries either. The cache container is a little lock-n-lock, barely larger than an Altoids tin. Have Fun.
