Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of seven Church Micros in Lewes, leading to a Bonus. In order to complete the Bonus cache you will need to collect a clue at each of the locations. These are not in the cache itself but in the grounds of these fine places of worship.

St John-sub-Castro Anglican Ecclesiastical Parish – Anglican -
Pelham Terrace/Brook StreetChurch

The present church, built in 1839 was constructed in a North - South direction whilst the Old church was in an East - West direction with a nave that dated back to the Saxon era. It was the oldest part of any church still standing in Lewes and built about the time of King Alfred. The rest of the old church was built on the Saxon foundations in medieval times. The area of the churchyard formed an entrenched angle in the town's medieval defences and is believed to be part of the Earthworks of a Roman fort built to guard the old river crossing.

The actual cache can be found near the parimeter of the church grounds.

The clue for this Church Micro is obtained on the memorial raised by order of His Majesty the Emperor of Russia Alexander II in 1877 - How many of Carls are remembered? This will give you J.

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, we would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
