#37 – 2000
The final Mini
In 2000 Rover Cars and the Longbridge factory were sold to the Phoenix Consortium, who renamed it MG Rover Group, in a management buyout for the token sum of £10.
This also saw the end of production in Longbridge and not only signalled the end of original Mini production after 41 years, but also brought about the demise of the 1275-cc engine which had powered the Mini and numerous other BL/BMC/ARG cars for more than 35 years.
The last Mini produced, a Rover Cooper Mini Sport, rolled off the Longbridge line on 4 October 2000.
A last minute addition to this cache in honour of the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh, I came across a photo of him visiting the MG Rover works in 2001, so I made it into a jigsaw which on completion will give you the north coordinates.
The Jigsaw of the above photo once complete will give you the north coordinates of this cache Click here
