Geocache Description:

Big ship technology has come a long way since this area became a major port.
Ships now have computer screens all over the bridge, they steer with joysticks instead of big wheels and chains, and of course, navigation by satellite.

It is even easier to park a large ship using their bow thrusters.
But I must confess, I haven't see one parked this way.

The Sculpture : Cargo
Artists: Mike Nicholls and Jonathan Leahey

Cargo is a contemporary sculpture that references the ongoing and historical maritime links Williamstown has to transportation, industry and navigational aids.

Cargo’s rusty hull suggests a raw state of construction, relating to the ships under construction in the BAE shipyards. Its geometric proportions allude to early shore based warning signals such as the Time Ball Tower on Point Gellibrand.

Mirroring and complementing the tower’s vertical profile, the sculpture acts as a sister land based object which could become another navigational marker used by fishermen to take sightings from sea.

At four metres high Cargo makes a strong statement as it is vertically anchored to its site on Cyril Curtain Reserve. Rising above its natural setting, its up-right position juxtaposes the freighters sitting on the horizon line at sea waiting to unload their containers.

The sculpture creates a visual ambiguity that enables the viewer to reflect on the Port of Williamstown’s association with the transportation of goods, the shipyards and the history of Hobsons Bay as a safe harbour.

The Cache
This is just a quick offset as the starting position is a little too close to tackle_head's traditional cache: Vultee Vengeance , V2 (GC2GY1H) which is well worth doing (seeing you are so close!)

Have a close look at the sculpture, you need to do a bit of counting:
A = number of containers on the deck, and
B = number of objects that jut out on the stern deck

The cache is very nearby at: A(AxB) meters and (AxB)A degrees true
