It wasn’t so much that Charlie wanted to be rich, oh I suppose
he did, but it was more the hunt that was Charlie’s life.
I first met him when he was 70 years old plus a decade or so.
He was on an adventure to find the lost treasure
of..............(fill in any rumor of abandoned riches here).
Charlie had stories of stage robbers, train robbers, and bank
heists. Somewhere out in the badlands of the western deserts, just
waiting for him, were the forgotten hiding spots of long ago
badmen. On foot, on horseback, and in an old 1946 red pickup
Charlie scoured the deserts of the southwest. He explored old
mining camps, long abandoned boom and bust towns, high mesas, deep
ravines, and countless caves and mine shafts. He would always dig
up something, old bottles, tin cans, coins by the handful, bits of
gold, and he was always just a day away from the mother load. We
all called him “Diggin up Charlie”, but mostly he’d dig up empty
dreams and rumors of a spot just “over yonder”.
The last time I saw Charlie was decades ago and I don’t know
if there’s anyone around who even remembers him. I can’t help but
wonder if he ever found his treasure, but I have a feeling he never
really wanted to anyway.
This cache is dedicated to “Diggin up Charlie”. To find it
you will have to wait till dark. It can’t be found in
daylight.
Head south of town on Las Vegas Blvd. to approximately N 35º
51.290 W 115º 15.331.
Turn east and head to approximately N 35º 49.279 W 115º
12.344.
Turn north on the dirt road.
We suggest you park at approximately N 35º 50.225 W 115º
10.469.
From the parking area make your way to the listed
coordinates.
Once you get to this “Spot” you will need a fairly strong
flashlight. Sweep the surrounding area with the light until you see
a reflector. The reflector is close to the ground. Once you see the
reflector, make your way to it. On the ground near the reflector
you will find a flat shiny brown rock. Written on the rock are the
coordinates to the next “Spot”. Make your way to this spot and
again sweep the area with your light until you find the reflector.
Go to the reflector and find the rock with the coordinates to the
next “Spot”. Continue this hunting method until you find the
cache.
Perpare for a long hike across the desert.
Make sure you take plenty of water and extra batteries. Please do
not move or disturb the reflectors. Please hide the cache well when
you are done. Please limit your posted logs so as not to spoil the
adventure for others.
