Geocache Description:

Nice easy cache in a very quiet area. Placed on "Remembrance Day" 2012. "Lest we Forget"

"Saint Patricks Catholic Church."---- Built 1877 On the 1st January 1840 an area of land containing 52 acres was conveyed to John Cosgrove by the Crown. On the 23rd June 1854 John Cosgrove conveyed it to the Catholic Church. "To permit and suffer to be errected and built upon the land a church or chapel". A Catholic school operated here in the 1840's and then closed and reopened in1852. In 1857 a new school and residence was built in the village. During 1855 the school had enrolments for 55 pupils. The school closed in 1869. The station Church at Sutton Forrest in 1878 as a timber building 56' x 15' with seating for 72 people. The Chapel was in disrepair. Tenders were called for the erection of a new Church with 150 pounds in hand and a further 15o pounds promised by Mr. R Mertz. On 27th October 1877 the founding stone was laid by Archbishop Vaughan and was open for worship in 1879. The cache sight overlooks a beautiful old property "Boscobel" where MR Bushy worked in the mid 1960's with the beautiful mares and foals. It was the home of imported English stalion "Cheviot Hills". The cache has log, pen and swaps and is a usual "Bushies " hide. Please cover over well.
