Geocache Description:

Hummingbird

This is a Letterbox Hybrid cache hidden in a beautiful park on the Forsyth/Guilford County line.

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the smallest bird in North Carolina. Hummingbirds can hover and fly in any direction, even upside down and backwards! To accomplish these aerial feats, the hummingbird beats its wings 75 times per second! They sip nectar from flowers and glean tiny insects from plants and trees. The nectar gives them energy and the insects provide essential protein.
Hummers, as they are affectionately known, gather spider webs to line their nests. They will help themselves to snack on a few insects found in the webs, too. Weighing only one-third ounce, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird migrates across the Gulf of Mexico (over 500 miles) each fall and returns again to North Carolina when the Redbuds bloom in April.

To get to the Letterbox:
The coordinates posted are for the starting point of your hunt. When you reach to coordinates specified, you will be very close to the Letterbox Hybrid cache (see the note below about Letterbox Hybrid geocaches). You should see a lamp post at the coordinates. Standing next to the lamp post on the south side, find a bearing of 90 degrees. Walk 11 paces in that direction. A pace is two steps - you only count each time the same foot hits the ground. The Hummingbird cache should be right in front of you! The cache is a 1.5 quart square Rubbermaid container. Please leave the stamp, logbook, and inkpad in the container. Please be sure to snap on the lid securely and take care to replace and hide the container well. Use discretion - this is becoming a popular park - so that the cache is not compromised.
About Letterbox Hybrid geocaches: About Triad Park:
This is a LETTERBOX HYBRID geocache. Letterboxing is a precursor of geocaching, using compass bearings or other clues to lead the seeker to the letterbox. The cache contains a logbook and a stamp. If you wish, you may stamp your personal journal with the rubber stamp in the letterbox (cache); then you may stamp the logbook with your personal stamp if you have one - if you don't have a stamp, just sign the logbook. But, please be sure to leave the stamp, logbook, and inkpad in the container. Triad Park is a joint venture of Forsyth and Guilford Counties. A total of 426 acres have been bought by the counties as a regional centerpiece park which has nature based park facilities nestled in the woods and meadows.
