The cache is in the idyllic location of Slaters Bridge near Little Langdale. It is within easy reach of Elterwater and although the track up from there is a bit steep it is achievable with a few rests along the way.
The cache is located a short distance from Slaters Bridge but still within sight of it. The container is a screw top plastic canister inside a black plastic bag. There are a few small items presently in it with enough room for similar type "swaps".
Slaters Bridge is not far from Elterwater which developed as an industrial settlement based on quarrying and the manufacture of gunpowder. The gunpowder works were built beside the fast flowing beck in 1824. Charcoal was supplied by the local alder coppices, many of which still exist. The gunpowder works were closed in 1928, but the quarrying of green slate continues today.
Slater Bridge is thought to have provided workers with access to the slate quarries south of the River Brothay, ence its name. There are suggestions, however, that the bridge may date back to Roman times or that it was named after the Sleyther family in the late 14th century.
