Another in a series of caches highlighting lesser known waterfalls on the Central Coast.
Welcome to Ironbark Reserve. To say this area is past its prime is probably an understatement, as many of the informative signs along the nature walk have faded to invisibility and the picnic table is now missing one of its seats, while at the viewing platform (reference point) one of the ladders has lost a few rungs and there's no longer much of a view anyway. Even the posters in the noticeboard haven't had Central Coast Council stickers placed over the Gosford City Council logos, a sure sign this reserve has dropped off the council's watchlist. The walking track though is fairly clear and in good condition, probably thanks to some of the locals, and the falls themselves are still an undiminished sight to behold.
Keep an eye out for snakes as they like this area. On my way out from placing the cache I came across a large red-bellied black sunning itself on the track.
There was once another cache here, GC1NK3Q placed in 2009 by Hunters & Collectors, and if it wasn't for that I would never have discovered these falls, so thank you for bringing me here and I hope my offering lives up to its predecessor.
The cache now is a 1.2 litre Duratech instrument case with a waterproof logbook and pencil included. GPS reception isn't too good in the gully but the hint should make it fairly obvious where to look. If all else fails, I've included a photo taken from GZ looking across at the falls, so if you line yourself up with that you should be pretty close.
