The cache is on a beautiful nature trail between the Astoria Column and the
Cathedral Tree. It can be reached from either the Column or from
Irving Avenue in Astoria.
If you start at the Astoria Column, you will pass
Column Cache just down the trail. The trail starts in the northeast
corner of the parking lot, behind the radio tower. If hiking this
direction, it is about 700 feet to Foundit.
If starting from Irving Avenue, the trailhead is on the road near
Cathedral Trail. This hike is about 1.25
miles.
The path features a few nature trail markers which point out the names of
plants and other areas of interest. If you hike the entire trail from
Irving Street to the Column, you will gain about 330 feet of elevation.
The cache is about 50 feet off the main trail down a faint side trail. The side trail
might be hard to spot.
When your GPS reads about 40 to 60 feet away, watch for a rocky area
right in the middle of the trail. Leave the main trail at that point and
follow the side trail down past the first large tree. Turn left there and
look around.
Watch for occasional slippery
areas and enjoy the walk!
