The Curling Ponds / Lochain Chrolaidh.
This area was once a hub of social activity for local people.
There were two curling ponds here.
The older, smaller of the two (closest to GZ) has now been re-landscaped and is looked after by Friends of Nevis and also by children of the local Primary School.
The other pond remains in its original condition and could still be used.
The site was chosen because it catches the frost – freezing air tumbles off the surrounding mountains and funnels down Glen Nevis.
The land for the curling ponds was donated in the 1880s and curling continued until the 1970s, when milder winters and the increasing use of indoor facilities saw the ponds fall into disrepair.
The cache is located close to the refurbished curling pond and is a 110mm x 22mm length of metal tubing, painted black. Please ensure that the lid is properly screwed shut - there's a lot of moisture in this part of the country. There are lots of muggles in this spot, so please be discreet when replacing the cache....the first one (in a slightly different location) was stolen.

From the cache site, cross the green (rather ugly) metal bridge and stroll about 300 metres upstream to arrive at Roaring Mill, a local beauty spot – particularly lovely in spring and autumn.
Roaring Mill is also a new EarthCache.
