A Community of Oranges
You may not be aware that the City of Orange maintains an orange grove at Hart Park. Planted 40 years ago, and named after the City’s first directly elected Mayor, the Robert D. Hoyt Municipal Orange Grove was meant to be a “Reminder of the contribution of the citrus industry to the community of Orange.”
The grove has been fenced off to protect it from the general public. Oranges from the grove are sometimes harvested by non-profit groups such as Orange Home Grown which recently picked 2,200 pounds of fruit and donated them to organizations such as Mary’s Kitchen, St. John’s Food Pantry, and the Friendly Center.
